Yliopiston koneilta pitäisi päästä lukemaan melkein kaikki artikkelit kokonaan ilmaiseksi.

The Journal of Ethnopharmacology is dedicated to the exchange of information and understandings about people's use of plants, fungi, animals, microorganisms and minerals and their biological and pharmacological effects based on the principles established through international conventions. Early people confronted with illness and disease, discovered a wealth of useful therapeutic agents in the plant and animal kingdoms. The empirical knowledge of these medicinal substances and their toxic potential was passed on by oral tradition and sometimes recorded in herbals and other texts on materia medica. Many valuable drugs of today (e.g., atropine, ephedrine, tubocurarine, digoxin, reserpine) came into use through the study of indigenous remedies. Chemists continue to use plant-derived drugs (e.g., morphine, taxol, physostigmine, quinidine, emetine) as prototypes in their attempts to develop more effective and less toxic medicinals.

Economic Botany is a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal of the Society for Economic Botany which publishes original research articles and notes on a wide range of topics dealing with the utilization of plants by people, plus special reports, letters and book reviews. Economic Botany specializes in scientific articles on the botany, history, and evolution of useful plants and their modes of use. Papers including particularly complex technical issues should be addressed to the general reader who probably will not understand the details of some contemporary techniques. Entheogen Review

The Entheogen Review (ER) on neljästi vuodessa ilmestyvä lehti, joka käsittelee muun muassa psykedeelisiä aineita ja eliöitä, šamanismia, keittiökemiaa ja kulttuuria jotakuinkin tieteellisestä näkökulmasta. ER ei ole tieteellinen julkaisu.

Jim DeKorne perusti ER:n vuonna 1992 ja julkaisi sitä vuosina 1992–1997. Vuonna 1998 David Aardvark alkoi huolehtia julkaisusta ja toimituksesta, samalla hän palkkasi K. Troutin huolehtimaan teknisestä toimituksesta.

Taso vaihtelee aika verran, mutta etenkin Aardvarkin aikaisissa on jo todella hyviäkin artikkeleita.

The Altered State of Consciousness rating scale (5D-ASC) (Dittrich, 1998) and the Adjective Mood Rating Scale (AMRS) (Janke and Debus, 1978) were used to assess the subjective effects under placebo and psilocybin. Both the AMRS and 5D-ASC have previously been shown to be sensitive to the psychological effects of psilocybin in humans (Vollenweider et al., 1997, 1998, 1999; Hasler et al., 2004).

5D-ASC The Altered States of Consciousness rating scale 5DASC
(Dittrich, 1998; Dittrich et al., 1999) consists of 94 items
that are visual-analogue scales of 10 cm length. These items
measure alterations in mood, perception, experience of self in relation
to environment, and thought disorder. Scores of each item
range between zero (‘No, not more than usually’) and ten (‘Yes,
much more than usually’). The ASC items are grouped into five
main factors comprising several items. (1) ‘oceanic boundlessness’
(OB) measures derealization and depersonalization accompanied
by changes in affect ranging from heightened mood to
euphoria and/or exaltation as well as alterations in the sense of
time. The corresponding item clusters are ‘positive derealization’,
‘positive depersonalization’, ‘altered time sense’, ‘positive mood’,
and ‘mania-like experience’. (2) ‘anxious ego dissolution’ (AED)
measures ego disintegration associated with loss of self-control,
thought disorder, arousal, and anxiety. The item clusters are
‘anxious derealization’, ‘thought disorder’, ‘delusion’, ‘fear of loss
of thought control’, and ‘fear of loss of body control’. (3) ‘visionary
restructuralization’ (VR) includes the item clusters ‘elementary
hallucinations’, ‘visual (pseudo-) hallucinations’,
‘synesthesia’, ‘changed meaning of percepts’, ‘facilitated recollection’,
and ‘facilitated imagination’. (4) ‘auditory alterations’ (AA)
refers to acoustic hallucinations and distortions in auditory experiences
and (5) the dimension ‘reduction of vigilance’ (RV) relates
to states of drowsiness, reduced alertness, and related impairment
of cognitive function.


AMRS The Adjective Mood Rating Scale (AMRS) (Janke and
Debus, 1978) consists of 60 adjectives representing different
mood states. Subjects were instructed to rate the extent to which
each adjective was applicable to their current mood from the
options: ‘not at all’ (1), ‘a little’ (2), ‘quite’ (3) and ‘strongly’ (4).
The AMRS consists of the following main factors: ‘concentration’,
‘inactivation,’ ‘tiredness,’ ‘dazed state’, ‘introversion’,
‘heightened mood’, ‘emotional excitability’, ‘anxiety,’ ‘depressiveness,’
and ‘dreaminess.’

Integration: Journal for Mind-moving Plants and Culture

Suhteellisen samanlaista settiä, kuin eleusiksessa. Integrationia julkaistiin vain kuusi numeroa vuosina 1991-1996 (oikeastaan viisi, koska numero't' 2 ja 3 ovat yhdistetty yhdeksi sieninumeroksi). Artikkeleita on saksaksi ja englanniksi, espanjaksikin on muutama artikkeli. Suurin osa taitaa olla englanniksi, saksankielisiä melkein yhtä paljon. Shaman. Journal of the International Society for Shamanistic Research

Symptomatic of the growing interest in shamanism, a religious phenomenon current in Eurasia, the Americas and Australia, the International Society for Shamanistic Research (ISSR) was founded at the International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences held in Zagreb in 1988. The journal Shaman, launched by Molnar & Kelemen Oriental Publishers in 1993, was approved as the official publication of the ISSR in the same year. Shamanism being the complex phenomenon that it is, shamanistic studies make fascinating reading for anyone with aninterest in the history of religions, anthropology, mythology, folklore, ethnomusicology, ethnochoreography, psychiatry or ethnomedicine. Since it occurs worldwide, Shaman's focus is comprehensive: Turkic, Mongolian, Manchu-Tunguz, Korean, Japanese, Finno-Ugrian, and American Indian subjects are all discussed. In 2004, the 12th volume of Shaman will be published.

As shamanism exists admixed with Christianity, Islam or Buddhism in many areas, Shaman also publishes articles dealing with the relationship of shamanism to these world religions.

Shaman (ISSN 1216-7827) is a annual journal (192 pages per volume) of a strictly academic nature, publishing original articles written in English. In addition, Shaman publishes reviews of current books, films, videos and sound recordings, brief accounts of works in progress and announcements of coming events.

The Journal of Cognitive Liberties

The Journal of Cognitive Liberties was published by the Center for Cognitive Liberty & Ethics from 1999-2003. A total of 11 issues were published, of which seven remain in print.

Cognitive liberty is the freedom to be the absolute sovereign of one’s own consciousness. It is an extension of the concept of freedom of thought.

An individual who enjoys cognitive liberty is free to alter the state of their consciousness using any method they choose, including but not limited to meditation, yoga, psychotropic drugs, fasting, prayer, etc. Such an individual would also never be forced to change their consciousness against their will. So, for example, a child who is forced to consume Ritalin as a prerequisite for attending public school, does not enjoy cognitive liberty, nor does an individual who is forced to take anti-psychotics in order to be fit to stand trial, nor an individual who faces criminal charges and punishment for changing the state of their consciousness by consuming a mind-altering drug.

Ethnomedicine is the study of other cultures' medical concepts (cosmology, etiology), behaviour (rituals), and products (drugs, amulets). The study of consciousness is the study of our own mind. In both disciplines, our own consciousness provides the actual instrument for research. This involves a type of self-examination and self-knowledge on many levels. The better we understand that which is foreign, the better we can know about ourselves. This Yearbook is concerned with the reciprocal stimulation of the two fields. Both ethnomedicine and the study of consciousness form an interdisciplinary field of study for anthropologists, linguists, sociologists, art historians, geomancers, chaos researchers, ethnopharmacologists, ethnobotanists, pharmacists, botanists, chemists, physicians, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
The aspects of ethnomedical systems which are primarily related with human consciousness and its various states, known as altered states of consciousness, constitute the subject of this book. It consciously encompasses different approaches from the philosophy of science, cognitive anthropology, social anthropology, ethnomycology, mycology, phenomenology, medicine, psychoanalysis, and ethnopharmacology.
With this Yearbook, we hope to provide a forum for the interdisciplinary study of consciousness in the light of ethnomedicine. It is intended to be open for many intellectual approaches and stimulate interdisciplinary research. It will also present contributions relevant to current discussions in both the scientific and the political domains.
